ATN ThOR 2 thermal vision.

The ATN ThOR series of thermal imaging scopes are based upon a proven 320 x 240 microbolometer core, which is coupled with a high resolution OLED color or B&W Micro-display Assembly that provides exceptional resolution and clarity. To achieve superior accuracy and precision the ThOR scopes utilize a rear projected optical precision windage and elevation system that allows for 3/4” MOA (2X) and 1/2” MOA (3x) reticle adjustments. This is a significant improvement over systems that use digital windage and elevation. The ThORs are the only thermal weapon sights with ATN’s new proprietary feature – Two Color Manual Brightness control of the aiming reticle. This feature allows for a choice of color (red or amber) of the projected reticle depending on the operator’s preference and tactical situation. The ThOR line is built with either a 2x or 3x optical magnifications. This provides is increased resolution benefits over digital zoom models.
The ThOR is an ideal product for force protection, border patrol officers, police SWAT and special operations forces providing them the tools they need to be successful in all field conditions both day and night.
Uncooled thermal imaging cuts through dust, smoke, fog, haze, and other battlefield obscurants. Its use cannot be detected as it emits no visible light or RF energy and operates without the use of illuminators or IR lights.

Night vision just the beginning for Army technology

The PVS-7 and PVS-14 night vision goggles are the latest generation night vision technology from the U.S. Army. The goggles allow the Warfighter to spot infrared illuminators not visible by the naked eye.
SAN ANTONIO -- Night vision technology developed by the U.S. Army now allows the American warfighter to own the night.

The PVS-7 and PVS-14 are third-generation binocular and monocular night vision goggles currently being used by the Army Infantry Soldier. The goggles have evolved significantly from previous generations as the Army continues its effort to empower, unburden and protect the warfighter.

The improvements to the products are a result of the partnership between the fighting force using them in combat and the Army science and technology community.

"Our biggest asset is getting feedback from Soldiers in the field. Our engineers modify technology after working with the warfighter to critique it in a manner that will be more beneficial to them in several different ways," said Tony Tice, with the Operations for U.S. Army Night Vision Lab.

"We want our Soldiers to own the night," he added.

The evolution of night vision technology has resulted in the PVS-7 and PVS-14 having increased durability, less weight, batteries with extended power and length of life and an improved ability to distinguish objects in the field of vision. The goggles run off two AA batteries rather than previous versions which ran off of battery packs resulting in heavier equipment.

"I used something similar way back when I was in the Navy, but it was nothing compared to these. The binoculars I had were heavy, but nowadays, they are quite light," said Gary Korzec, a resident of San Antonio visiting the All-American Bowl, Jan. 8.

The goggles are part of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's Army Tech Zone display within the Army Strong Zone at the Alamodome. The displays, along with an extensive outreach effort, are part of the many activities surrounding the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which was played Jan. 8.

"We all appreciate the warfighters, but seeing this technology really gives you a sense of what they do for us. And it's an honor when they share their appreciation to us, too," Tice said.

Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS)

The AN/PAS-13 Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) gives Soldiers with individual and crew served weapons the capability to see deep into the battlefield, increase surveillance and target acquisition range, and penetrate obscurants, day or night. The TWS systems use uncooled, forward-looking infrared technology and provide a standard video output for training, image transfer, or remote viewing. Thermal Weapon Sights are lightweight systems that are mountable onto a weapon rail and operate to the maximum effective range of the weapon.

ENVG Enhanced Night Vision Goggle AN/PSQ 20

Mission
Provides the Soldier with enhanced situational awareness day or night in all weather and degraded battlefield conditions.

The AN/PSQ-20 Enhanced Night Vision Goggle (ENVG) is a helmet-mounted passive device for the individual Soldier that combines scene data from a low-light level sensor and a long-wave infrared sensor into a single, integrated image. The ENVG improves the Soldier’s situational awareness by providing the capability to rapidly detect and recognize man-sized targets while maintaining the ability to see detail and use weapon-mounted aiming lights.


A digital upgrade package for the ENVG will take advantage of image processing techniques to improve image clarity and situational awareness for the Soldier. A digital system will lend itself to the battlefield of the future with the ability to import and export digital files (data/map injection).

The ENVG weighs two pounds, with four AA batteries, and provides target recognition ranges comparable to, or better than, the AN/PVS-14. The ENVG is compatible with the Multifunctional Aiming Lights currently in the Army inventory.

                                                                  

Product Manager Soldier Maneuver Sensors (SMS) provides Soldiers with products for enhanced vision, improved targeting, and greater lethality. Development of the Enhanced Night Vision Google (ENVG) is one example of PEO Soldier’s leadership in this area. The ENVG, initially fielded to units supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in FY09, provides the individual Soldier with enhanced situational awareness day or night in all weather and degraded battlefield conditions. The ENVG is a helmet-mounted passive device that combines scene data from a low-light level sensor and a long wave sensor into a single, integrated image.
